Format: This will be a Kanikapila/Uke Circle where we sit in a circle and take turns calling songs. Please select your selection of up to six songs from the QC Ukes songbook. You are welcome to call or perform songs from any other source. If possible please post your selected songs early in the comments of our FB event page, so we can be prepared.

What to bring: you, your uke(s), chair, music stand, data-enabled device if you wish to access the songbook or other songbook(s), tuner, water, other uke players …

We hope that the weather will be perfect. Please spread the word to other uke players you may know so that we can make a good noise.

See you soon, Rolf

Dates for Warm Weather Circles, 2025

Hello ukulele friends! Please mark your calendars. We have a different plan for June, July & Aug, 2025. Please check our FB page, website and newsletters for updates a week before each circle.

Our June circle has moved to the first Saturday – June 7th at the usual time and location – Ruth Pawson School. 20 Weekes Cres, Regina, Saskatchewan (click the address for a G-map pin).

For July & August, we don’t have the school and will meet for an outdoor circle, unless anyone wants to host us. We’ll continue to meet on the 2nd Saturday at 2pm for the summer months. Our usual outdoor spot is in Wascana Park; more on that closer to the dates.

April 12th Uke Circle & Special Hawaiian Song

Please join us to sing and strum on Saturday, April 12 at 2pm for the ukulele circle in Regina. All are welcome. Please invite friends.

The About page has details such as location, songbook, what to bring. Please bring indoor shoes / slippers and a warm sweater as our space can be a little cool.

Our fearless & fun Social Media manager, Rolf, has shared a song right from Hawaii. “For this month I brought us a wonderful Hawaiian song to play “E Huli Makou”. This song is popular for teaching first hula movements to children (and tourists), and the video is a nice version of the song and a class that has the moves right.“

If you wish to prepare ahead of time, here’s where to find tab & video:
– Our QCU Facebook Page has the pdf and link to video
– Song & Hula dance video – YouTube (no pressure to dance at our circle – LOL!!)
– You can download the song HERE. Just click “Download” on the right; no need to create an account. Then either save it to your device or print it off.

Thanks Rolf!!

Looking forward to singing and playing with ya’ll.

Holiday / Christmas Season Songbook for Dec 07 Circle

Let’s sing some holiday songs and Christmas carols at our Dec 07 circle! (Please note this is the 1st Sat in Dec, not our usual 2nd Saturday.)

Our 2024 Holiday / Christmas Season Songbook (pdf) is mostly thanks to the BUGs group in Ottawa. We added a few songs our group has enjoyed in the past, as an addendum.

What’s fancy? You can click on a song title in the table of contents and it will take you right to that song in the book. On most of the song pages, you can click “back to song list” to get back to the ToC. No more searching and scrolling!

What’s not fancy? The addendum (which is still kinda fancy), was copied from my uke binder and has my scribbles. Hopefully you’ll find them helpful. 🙂 The extra songs were added in blue to the main table of contents – very unfancy but it keeps the songs in alphabetical order.

Please feel free to print your own copy of this 106 pg songbook or download it to your device. You don’t need a DropBox account – just look for the “download only” option.

We have a new home!!

As you know, the past few years have been challenging for many music circles as they rebuild, including the Queen City Ukes. Our group has been bumping around a little, in need of a new home since the fine folks at Sawchyn Guitars, our former home sweet home, retired.

We would like to extend a big thank you to the Uplands Community Association in Regina for offering us a space where we can meet to play and sing monthly! Please see our About Page for location details, our songbook and a few things to know.

Everyone of all ages and musical abilities is welcome to join us. It’s a safe and inclusive place whether you’re a complete beginner, someone comfortable with 5 chords, or an expert player.

We meet on the 2nd Saturday of every month, 2 – 4 pm.

July 1 – BUG’s Ukuleles Across Canada Jam

Wednesday, July 1
11:30 AM – Meet and greet and check-in
Noon – Singing starts
Zoom link
– ID: 848 168 915 – Password: uke15

We still aren’t able to meet in person, but that doesn’t mean we can’t get together virtually. Our friends at the Bytown Ukulele Group in Ottawa are hosting a Canada-wide Canada Day party on Zoom and we’re invited!

Ukulele club leaders from every province are each going to lead a song and I’ve been asked to represent Saskatchewan and the Queen City Ukes!

The event will take place on Zoom and there should be some free spots for members of other clubs. All the details and the list of songs are on their Facebook page and website.

Thank you, Sue and Mark, for pulling this all together!

OK, so on to Kendra’s big news. Ukulele master James Hill is going to be in Regina in October and has offered to put on a workshop at the store! James is an amazing teacher and headlines ukulele festivals all over the world. This is a fantastic opportunity that can’t be missed.

April 2017: Our third birthday!

April 11, 2017 (second Tuesday!)
7–9 PM
Sawchyn Guitars, 2132 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, SK

In 2014, a few strangers brought their ukuleles to Sawchyn Guitars for our first circle. Three years later, the group has grown and friendships have been built.

Like our other anniversary circles, I’m turning the floor over to you. Anyone who wants to is invited to play a solo or lead the group in a song. I’ll have a sign up sheet at the counter; just add your name if you want to take the stage.

After the performances, we’ll have a few snacks and drinks and then play through our favourites from the catalogue.

I’ll also collect dues for 2017. It’s only $10 for the year, which gets you a nifty name card and the happiness that comes with helping to keep the circle going 🙂  Also, Sawchyn occasionally offers deals for card holders, so there’s something in it for you, too.

Most importantly: NOTE THE DATE! I’m going to be out of town so we’ve had to move April’s circle to the second Tuesday.

Happy anniversary to everyone! I’ll see you on April 11.

Happy birthday, Queen City Ukers!

Tuesday Night Ukes 2nd Anniversary
Tuesday, April 5

7 to 9 PM
Sawchyn Guitars, 2132 Dewdney Avenue, Regina

Queen City Ukes has been around for two whole years!

On April 5 we’ll celebrate with an open mic night. Bring your favourite song and show off your skills. For those who want to perform, I’ll put a signup sheet on the counter. If you have a song you’d like to play with the group, email it to me, bring it on a thumb drive or let me know a website where I can find it and I’ll put it up on the projector.

Even if you don’t want to play in front of the group, be sure to bring your ukulele as we’ll end the night playing tunes from our song book.

As a reminder, I’ll be collecting dues to help keep the group going. It’s $10 for the year and Sawchyn Guitars has been kind enough to offer occasional discounts for card holders.

Thank you to everyone for making Tuesdays in Regina a lot more fun. I look forward to our time together every month and I hope to do so for many years to come.

PS – May is ’80s night. Send me you favourite songs and I’ll try to add them to the list.
