Next circle: August 7, 2018
7–9 PM
Murray and Laura’s – 134 Rink Avenue
Laura and Murray have opened up their home to us for August’s circle.
There will be no new music, but we have lots of old favourites.
Bring a deck chair if you have one. There is a bit of seating on the deck, but not enough for everyone.
We will be back to the shop in September. There is no musical theme; feel free to request your favourites. I’ve already got a few lined up from Blondie and John Denver.
Next circle: Tuesday, July 3
7–9 PM
Malty National, 1130 15th Avenue, Regina
July’s circle will take us away from the shop and into one of Regina’s favourite craft breweries: Malty National! Not only are they gaining international attention with beers that are both daring and traditional … not only do they collaborate with other brewers to elevate Saskatchewan’s growing craft brewing scene … not only are they building a community and helping revitalize the Heritage Neighbourhood … but one of the owners even plays the ukulele! As if they weren’t super cool already!
And I know others in the circle agree because every time I stop by, I seem to run into some of you!
Malty National is a family-friendly establishment, so those under 19 are welcome to join us.
I wasn’t planning on adding any new music, but Rolf has suggested we play some drinking songs. Go ahead and send them my way by June 22 so I can get them up on the site a week before the circle.
In August we will return to my back yard unless someone has a great spot they’d like to suggest.
Next circle: Tuesday, June 5
7–9 PM
Sawchyn Guitars, 2132 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, Sask.
June takes us back almost a century to the ukulele’s heyday. Send in your suggestions for your favourite music from the 1920.
In addition, we already have these in our collection:
- Tonight, You Belong to Me, Billy Rose and Lee David (1926), Patience and Prudence (1956) video
- Ukulele Lady, Richard Whiting & Gus Kahn (1925)
- Waiting For a Train, Jimmie Rodgers (1928)Â video
Next circle: Tuesday, May 1
7–9 PM
Sawchyn Guitars, 2132 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, Sask.
I’ve prepared four new songs for May’s circle. Thank you, everyone, for the suggestions.
I’ll warn you now, Closer to Fine is a finger stretcher, but it was also the most requested song and this is the easiest version of the chords I could find. I’ve linked to a video of someone playing this arrangement on ukulele.
- You’re So Vain, Carly Simon (1972) video 1, video 2
- River Road, Sylvia Tyson, Crystal Gayle (1977) video, bonus Muppet video
- My Church, Maren Morris (2016) video
- Closer to Fine, Indigo Girls (1989) video, video of this ukulele arrangement
We’ll also play these favourites from our song book:
- Jolene, Dolly Parton (1974) video
- Big Yellow Taxi, Joni Mitchell (1970) video
- Time After Time, Cyndi Lauper (1983)Â video
See you all next week!
Next circle: May 1, 2018

First off, a huge thank you to everyone who came out to our anniversary circle. I had a lot of fun and all the soloists sounded amazing!
May’s theme is female singer-songwriters. I’ve been given a few suggestions, but we have plenty of room for more.
- You’re So Vain – Carly Simon
- River Road – Sylvia Tyson
- You Were on My Mind – Sylvia Tyson
I’ve also had requests for Joni Mitchell, Sarah McLaughlin, Sarah Harmer, Melissa Etheridge, Jewel, Lisa Loeb and Indigo Girls. Are there any specific songs people want to play?
If you want to get a head start on June’s circle, we’re dusting off the pianola rolls for music from the 1920s.
Tuesday, February 6

Valentine’s Day is around the corner so we’ve lined up a mix of love songs and breakup songs.
- Linger, The Cranberries (1993) video
- Tomorrow Will Be Kinder, The Secret Sisters (2012) video
- Bye Bye Love, The Everly Brothers (1957) video, Simon & Garfunkel (1970) video
